Prosur USA roadshow recap

Our American team has had an exciting and celebratory month. Our event roadshow through the USA was all about science and the future of food. At four events, we interacted with meat industry leaders, leading food scientists, and young, up-and-coming researchers. We met a lot of old friends, strengthened existing partnerships and created new synergies by making new exciting contacts. A special highlight was experienced by our colleague Dr. Christine Alvarado with a very personal award.

Prosur roadshow

RMC

Our roadshow kicked off on June 25 in St. Paul, Minnesota. At the 76th RMC of the American Meat Science Association, we took a deep dive into cutting-edge meat science. In addition to our supplier showcase our co-worker Andrew Michaelsen, presented our #KeepTheLookDropTheCelery technology during a TechTalk, whilst Christine Alvarado moderated an informative roundtable on Food Safety with Al Almanza (JBS USA), Mindy Brashears (Texas Tech University) and David Goldman, MD, MPH (Groundswell Strategy).

Our natural ingredient solutions were also a hot topic in third-party-studies during the ePoster Sessions. Sarah Johnson (University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture) presented her study about phosphate replacer in injection marinated chicken and Rodrigo Tarté (Iowa State University) analyzed the color development in restructured ham.

PSA

The next stop on our tour was dominated by a very personal moment. At the PSA Annual Meeting of the Poultry Science Association in Philadelphia, PA (July 10-13), Christine was honored as PSA Fellow 2023. This award truly means a lot to her. Poultry science has been a lifelong passion for Christine and the Poultry Science Association means not only networking with top scientists and colleagues, but she considers them as family and friends. Her award was presented by Todd Applegate former PSA president and Department Head at The University of Georgia.

More positive news followed soon after. Dr. Casey M. Owens’s (University of Arkansas System) student Sarah Johnson also won the oral competition for her research on our #KeepTheJuiceLoseThePhosphates technology, the same study she already presented at the RMC in June.

IFT FIRST

This year´s IFT FIRST (July 16-19) main theme was focused on future-proofing our food system, which describes exactly what Prosur is all about and why we were delighted to be exhibiting in Chicago with our complete US team supported by our CEO, Dr. Juan De Dios Hernández, our Global R&D Director. Dr. Isidro Guillén and Simon Claessens, Global Business Development Director. The team was complemented by a delegation from South America consisting of Nicolás and Federico Orloff (LATAM) as well as Iury Leal (Brazil).

SMA

Our final stop was close to the hearts for two of our colleagues. Texas was calling and Christine as well as Riley Snyder had to go! Both our Texas A&M University ex-alumni attended to say howdy at the 67th Annual Convention & Suppliers’ Showcase of the Southwest Meat Association in San Antonio from July 19-22. They made sure that no one messed with meat when they visited our stand!
